Day 72 - Looking for joy

I finished up the Winter Choice thing today. Hello, laggy stores! Even with my fab new video card, I was lagging out badly. But I got some things I wanted, including the Midnight Girls Talk set from new-to-me store +mocha+. I wanted to stick around there and shop, but I'll just have to go back later. Maybe the lag won't be so bad after the choice thing is over. Does lag in a sim "collect" even when people aren't in the sim? Hmmm...

Now if it looks like I'm kind of down in the picture, I kind of am. Something has been bugging me the past few days.

Is it not ok to just be happy anymore?

See, everytime I see someone excited on their plurk lines or blogs, someone else steps in and dumps cold water on it. You can't be excited about this, because Linden Lab sucks. You can't be excited about that, because the person responsible for it is evil. You can't have a party and be happy about it, because there was an earthquake/hurricane/tsunami/fire and so that party MUST be for charity. Heck, I can't even watch old sitcoms at night without Sarah McLachlan and her sad songs telling me a dog will die if I don't give up some money.

It's not that I'm unsympathetic. I regularly do things for charity. My cat came from the shelter. I buy extra pet food & litter and take it to the shelter. I give blood. I'd guess there are a lot of us who do many good deeds every day and never never once talk about them because it's just part of our lives.

But can we just be happy for a little bit? Can we be excited for our friends because something good happened to them without kicking them to get them back down? Can we dance and listen to music for an hour without someone telling us we need to remember all the bad stuff going on in the world?

I'm going to make it a point today to spend an hour just being happy, for my friends and for myself. I want an hour to just goof off and have fun. I don't think even Sarah McLachlan would disagree that a little joy is never a bad thing.

I hate those Sarah McCOUGHlin commercials. And all my pets have been rescued from shelters.

I'm not happy these days because my tooth is killing me. And my job right now is consumed with pushing the text-to-donate Haiti initiative to the press, so that's probably why I feel like it's hanging over me.

But yeah, I don't think a little happiness would kill any of us. :)

I am always amazed at how much real world money is raised for good causes in SL where people aren't given a little slip of paper to turn in on tax day for a credit. It shows how generous and caring the people in SL are.

I agree -- don't bring others down who are celebrating successes they have worked hard for.

My cats are adopted. One is from a restaurant alley, and one was a kitten our neighbors stopped feeding. I took to the vet because it was obviously dying. I told them so too!
